Host A Black Movie Awards Party - Your Way
Celebrate the 2008 Black Movie Awards along with us and host your very own BMA party! Invite family and friends to gather for a screening party at your house. Below are some suggestions to help you create a night to remember.
Invitations: Bring out the ‘creative’ in you from the start and create a customized invitation for your guests.
Decorations: The Black Movie Awards is a celebration of the past, present and the future of Black cinema. Decorate your party with some of your favorite movie memorabilia or something in-keeping with the theme.
Red Carpet Arrivals: Carve out a special walkway for your guests to arrive via. Roll out the red carpet or anything else you think is fun. Get a Polaroid camera and designate one of your friends as "paparazzi" and have them snap a shot of each of your VIPs.
Music: Set the mood with some of your favorite tunes. Choose well-known Black movie soundtracks or pick an era that you love.
Food & Beverages: Lots of food and drinks is the key to a successful party. The more the merrier. Throw in some movie favorites like popcorn, goobers, nachos and cheese and name a cocktail or punch in honor of your personal favorite Black movie of the year.
Dress Code/Attire: You can choose to have a dress code or not. If you choose to, one option is to ask guests to come dressed as their favorite nominee, or announce a theme (70s/Blaxploitation) and have guests don their flyest Foxy Brown or Shaft ’fros!
Host a Party Activity: Download our printable ballot (available April 2008) before the show and pass out copies to guests as they arrive. Have them predict the winners pre-show and collect their completed ballots. Award prizes at the end of the night for best and worst scores and let recipients give an acceptance speech.
Party Keepsake: People love free stuff. End the night with a token treat for your guests to take home and remind them of what a great night they had at your BMA party.
